Chapter 5
The Unforgettable Mark in My Husband's Heart • Chapter 7
Chapter 5
When Ryan Bennett arrived, I was lying quietly in the hospital bed with an oxygen tube in my nose.
The doctor told him that I had a severe brain injury and had become a vegetable. There was no telling if I would ever wake up.
For the first time, I saw a look of panic in Ryan Bennett's eyes. Could it be that he was worried about me?
He walked over, took my hand, and pressed it against his face. His voice was trembling slightly:
Ella, I'm here to take you home. Can you look at me? Please?
What was going on? Who was he putting on this act for? I didn't understand.
Then, his eyes turned red, and tears rolled down his cheeks. He was crying—Ryan Bennett was actually crying for me? I couldn't believe it. Was he faking it?
Ryan Bennett sat by my bed the entire day. The look in his eyes as he looked at me was a tenderness I had never seen when I was awake.
That night, Sophia Wilson pushed open the door of the ward: Ryan.
Ryan Bennett, surprisingly, didn't turn around to look at her or even acknowledge her. Sophia Wilson walked up to him and said with a tearful voice:
Ryan, what's wrong with you? Why aren't you talking to me?
Why are you holding her hand? Look at me! I'm Sophia Wilson—your Sophia Wilson!
Ryan Bennett murmured to himself: Last night, I shouldn't have kicked her out.
If I hadn't kicked her out, she wouldn't have gotten into this mess. It's all my fault.
Sophia Wilson knelt down on the floor, stroked Ryan Bennett's face, and there was panic and fear in her eyes:
Ryan, don't be like this. It's not your fault. It's just Ella Carter's bad luck. Don't blame yourself.
She's a vegetable now. You can just go to the court and apply for a divorce. Then we can be together without any obstacles.
When Ryan Bennett still didn't respond to her, Sophia Wilson grew anxious:
Ryan, are you even listening to me?
Ryan Bennett looked at Sophia Wilson with a cold, menacing gaze: Get out.
His voice was soft, but it carried an unshakable firmness.
Both Sophia Wilson and I were stunned. Ryan Bennett had never spoken to Sophia Wilson like that before, nor had he ever looked at her with such a gaze.
What did you say?
Sophia Wilson's voice was trembling.
Get out.
Ryan Bennett said in a cold tone, still refusing to look at her.
Sophia Wilson left crying. Ryan Bennett didn't even glance at her. Instead, he stroked my hair and whispered softly:
It's okay. The unimportant person is gone now. No one will disturb us anymore.
Ryan Bennett seemed so strange to me now. How could he treat Sophia Wilson like that?
I still remembered the first time I met Sophia Wilson. She was wearing a red dress, like a beautiful red rose.
We looked alike, but our temperaments were completely different. She was so confident, noble, calm, and graceful.
Standing next to Ryan Bennett, they looked like a perfect match—made for each other.
But me? I was so timid and cautious, like a maid who had stolen a princess's dress.
No matter how gorgeous the dress or how exquisite the makeup, I couldn't hide the inferiority and sensitivity deep in my heart.
Ryan Bennett had once held Sophia Wilson's hand and come up to me, saying that Sophia Wilson was the love of his life. They had had a misunderstanding a few years ago,
and now that the misunderstanding had been cleared up, he wanted me to step aside.
Ella Carter, I know I've wronged you, but I was never the right person for you. Our marriage was a mistake.
As long as you agree to a divorce, I'll give you ten million yuan as compensation.
He said it so casually, but every word felt like a knife stabbing into my heart.
The moment I saw Sophia Wilson, I understood everything.
No wonder I always felt like he was looking at someone else when he looked at me. No wonder he said he had fallen in love with me at first sight.
No wonder he had been willing to spend two million yuan to marry me.
It turned out that I just looked like the love of his life—the white moonlight in his heart.
