Chapter 8

Thank goodness I had been paying for Luna's tuition. I had originally wanted to sponsor this poor girl's education, but she had insisted that she could support herself through part-time jobs. She said I had already helped her so much, and she didn't want to trouble me any further.

Luna could barely support herself, so how could she have extra money to give to those blood-sucking parents? So Sophia Chen went to Luna's university to make a scene, yelling that Luna was unfilial and mean to her own sister. A video of this incident was posted online and spread like wildfire. That day, I called Luna and asked, "Do you want to get rid of those bloodsuckers once and for all?"

On the other end of the phone, Luna was sobbing uncontrollably. She choked out, "Sis Qi Yu (Queenie), I don't know what to do. I'm so wronged—I wish I had never been born."

Hearing Luna's true feelings, I immediately posted all the evidence I had collected about Sophia Chen's abuse of her children online. I also hired some online influencers to guide public opinion. Overnight, the tide turned. Sophia Chen was so scolded that she didn't have the face to continue making a scene and had to slink back to her hometown in embarrassment.

After this incident, Sophia Chen stopped sending money to Mia. Mia had to go out and find a job again. She barely made it through until Shao Qin graduated, but his internship salary was too low—and even after becoming a regular employee, it would take at least two or three years for him to get a raise. So Mia started having evil thoughts.

She met a small business owner through social media and became his mistress. When I found out about this, I was both happy and angry. I wondered what would happen when my poor brother found out that the woman he cherished so much had cheated on him behind his back.

I deliberately chose a day when both Shao Qin and Mia were at home and told the business owner's wife, Olivia Davis, about Mia being his mistress. Olivia, who was heavily pregnant, found Mia's rental apartment with my help. As soon as she walked in, she told the thugs she had brought along to trash the place. She threw photos of Mia and her husband being intimate in Mia's face. What a pity I didn't get to see that scene with my own eyes.

I heard that Shao Qin had confronted Mia, asking her why she had betrayed him. Mia had snapped at him, "Do you really think you're still the young master of the Gong family? Over the past year and more, have I had a single good day with you? That boss gives me 20,000 yuan a month as pocket money—how about you? How long do you think it will take you to earn 20,000 yuan? Without the Gong family, you're nothing!"

That day, Mia left that cramped rental apartment. And that business owner wasn't the only one she was seeing.

The price Shao Qin had to pay to see through Mia's true colors was far too high. When I found him, he was huddled up in the rental apartment, reeking of alcohol and unshaven—nothing like the energetic young man he used to be.

When he opened the door and saw me, he hesitated to speak. He turned around and poured me a glass of water. I asked him, "Do you regret it?"

He didn't say anything; he just stared blankly out the window. I continued, "When you were little and unhappy, you also liked to stare out the window in a daze. You always said that in that house, you never felt valued. But Shao Qin, have you ever really tried to feel it? Your bedroom was decorated by Mom before she passed away. The little clothes you wore from the age of one to three were also chosen by Mom. She loved you very much, and I love you too. After Dad left, we were the only family each other had left. All I ever wanted was for you to be happy. Even though Dad didn't leave you any assets, I would still make sure you live a worry-free life for the rest of your days."

Shao Qin whispered, "You don't hate me? Because of me... Mom died..."

"You were just a newborn baby back then. Everything is fate—what reason would I have to hate you?" I replied.

Shao Qin started crying softly, "Sis, I'm sorry. I was wrong."

I walked over and patted his shoulder, "Life is long, and everyone makes mistakes. The important thing is to realize your mistake and turn over a new leaf."

I had originally planned to arrange a position for Shao Qin in the company, but he said he really liked his current job. Well, I decided to let him be. But I never expected that a few months later, Mia would come looking for Shao Qin again.
