Chapter 20

"Sophia... Sophia..."

This time, no one answered. No bright, smiling girl would ever call his name again.

Ethan held my urn and sobbed, begging for my forgiveness, kneeling and praying to God to bring me back.

"This isn’t real, is it? Tell me it’s not real! Say something!" He shook Noah, desperate for someone to tell him it was all a dream. Dreams ended eventually—and when they did, I’d still be there.

"Wake up!" Noah roared, snatching the urn from Ethan’s hands. His eyes were red with rage. "You don’t deserve to touch her."

Ethan watched as the urn was taken away. He threw aside his pride, his dignity—everything. He knelt, crawling on his knees, falling and getting back up, trying to grab the urn from Noah.

"Give Sophia back to me... Give her back..."

Ethan had never imagined that a divorce would end in eternal separation.

"Sophia, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have ignored you. I only helped Luna because I felt indebted to her. I’m so sorry..."

"Come back, please. Hit me, scold me—anything. Just come back..." He knelt on the ground, burying his face in his hands and crying.

Ethan had regretted the divorce almost immediately. Luna’s greed, Leo’s unruliness—they’d become constant headaches. Luna’s ex-husband kept showing up to cause trouble, and all she did was hide behind Ethan, sobbing and asking for help.

No ideas, no courage—only tears. Ethan had grown tired of it. Out of the last of his kindness, he’d given her enough money to live comfortably with her son, then kicked them out. No amount of begging or tears from Luna could change his mind.

Left alone in the big house and the company, Ethan had thought of me—only to find I’d vanished without a trace. He’d searched everywhere, with no luck.

The next time he heard my name, I was already gone.

People are always like this—they only know how to cherish what they have after they’ve lost it.

Noah had hidden the urn, but Ethan had found it. He’d tried to take it back to China, but Noah had caught him halfway. The urn ended up back in Noah’s hands.

Following my will, Noah scattered my ashes in an ice-free harbor—where I could fly freely forever.

As for Ethan Wilson? Let’s never meet again in the next life.
