Chapter 8

How Did I End Up Sleeping with My Arch-Nemesis?   â€˘   Chapter 10

Chapter 8

After resting at home for a week, I wanted to go out for some fresh air. Adrian naturally became my full-time personal driver.

“Who would’ve thought Adrian Foster—CEO of a big company—would be willing to be a full-time chauffeur, picking someone up and dropping them off every day?”

When Vivian saw us on the first day, she was so shocked her jaw almost hit the floor.

I had to push it back up for her.

“So you and Adrian Foster…?”

Vivian wiggled her eyebrows at me, her eyes full of gossip. She could already smell a story—one that would shock everyone.

Just that one sentence made my face burn. A blush spread from my cheeks to the tips of my ears.

Over the past week, Adrian had slept with me every night—holding me in his arms. It seemed like only in his arms could I find the sense of security I needed to chase away the darkness in my heart.

“You’re getting better treatment than me. I need to tell Ethan Wells to learn from Adrian.”

Vivian even pretended to take out her phone to call him.

I quickly grabbed her hand.

“Enough! Ethan treats you like a princess every single day—what more do you want?”

“Haha… I’m just teasing you. I know Ethan’s good to me.”

Ethan and Vivian were the “golden couple” of our circle. Vivian had been quite the playgirl before, but Ethan had won her over with his constant care. Now, whenever they had time, they stuck together like glue.

People like us—born into wealth and privilege—often treated relationships like fleeting water. But Ethan had truly stayed loyal to Vivian, through thick and thin.

No matter how stubborn or clingy Vivian got, Ethan always smiled and indulged her.

Their relationship was the envy of everyone. After all, so many marriages in our world were just business deals. Finding true love on your own—and being happy—was rare.

When work ended, I walked to the company entrance. The Maybach was already waiting by the side of the road. Adrian was holding a black umbrella, his tall figure walking toward me through the rain.

The corners of his lips lifted into a charming smile. Combined with his natural cold aura, even I was a little stunned.

Not to mention the female colleagues beside me—they were whispering openly, their eyes glued to Adrian like they couldn’t look away.

“He’s so handsome…”

“I heard he’s the CEO…”

“So young and successful—handsome and talented!”

“Why can’t there be more guys like him…?”

Hearing them, I felt a twinge of jealousy. I pouted.

Adrian pinched my cheek lightly, chuckling. “Anna, are you a pufferfish?”

In front of all my colleagues, I took his arm and walked with him into the rain. I refused to back down.

“Then you’re a dog?”

I thought about the purple and blue marks on my body that time—and wanted to bite him.

“Haha…”

I must have lost my mind. I even thought his laugh was sexy. Lately, I’d been looking at him like a fool in love.

“Anna, you’re drooling.”

Adrian laughed and closed my mouth for me.

“Cough…” I straightened my expression and cleared my throat.

“My colleagues were all saying you’re handsome.”

“What do you think, Anna?”

“I think… They’re right.”

I had to admit—Adrian had a great face. Dammit, the more I looked at him, the more I liked him. Before, we’d been too busy bickering to think about this.

“They said they want to throw themselves at you.”

Okay, fine—I admitted it.

Adrian definitely had the charm to make women go crazy for him.

“But I already have Anna. One Anna is enough.”

Adrian held out his right hand and took mine.

His hands were beautiful too—fair, smooth, slender, with long, defined fingers.

Perfect for me to touch!

But I wasn’t going to be fooled by his good looks. I raised an eyebrow. “Is that all you have to say?”

To my surprise, when I got home the next night, I was shocked.

The room was filled with balloon flowers.

As soon as I opened the door, a rich, sweet fragrance hit me. I couldn’t help but take a deep breath.

“It smells so good…”

“Did you do this?”

I turned to him, tilting my head and blinking playfully. I could barely believe it.

“Mmm.”

Adrian lifted his chin proudly, his face glowing with pride—he couldn’t hide it.

“Aren’t you busy as CEO? Do you have nothing better to do?”

Even though I said that, my body was honest—I walked over to look at the flowers.

They were balloon flowers—my favorite.

I loved balloon flowers mostly because of their meaning:

Eternity, sincerity, undying love.

Adrian watched me—my fair face lit up with a smile, like the spring breeze warming people’s hearts. He couldn’t help but smile too.

He put his hands on my shoulders and turned me to face him. I stared into his eyes, not missing a single emotion.

“Anna, I love you. Will you be my girlfriend?”

He looked calm on the surface—like he had everything under control. But the slight tremor in his fingertips gave him away. He was actually panicking inside.

“Yes…”

Overcome with emotion, I stood on my tiptoes and kissed his lips.
