Chapter 5

"Stop right there! No fighting!" the police shouted from behind us.

And just like that, I was taken to the detention center.

"An aunt reported that there were delinquent youths fighting in the woods of the park. Tell me β€” how old are you guys? Instead of studying, you're out here fighting," a middle-aged police officer said, tapping his finger on the table.

"You're all third-year high school students. You'll be taking the college entrance exam soon. How could you get involved with these idle gangsters from society?"

"Each of you, tell me why you were fighting."

In the end, since we were all minors and no serious harm had been done, the chubby boy and the students he had brought were all picked up by their parents.

Because a parent had to come to pick us up, only four of us remained: me, Olivia Wood, Sophia Zhang, and Chloe He.

As for the yellow-haired boy and the people he had brought β€” they were all adults, so they had to be detained for fifteen days.

Olivia Wood and Sophia Zhang's fathers didn't come; their mothers did instead.

As soon as their mothers arrived, they walked over in their high heels to look at their disheveled daughters.

"Olivia, how many times have I told you to stay away from those bad people? Look at what those lunatics did to you! Now you'll have to transfer schools again. Next time, I'll contact Uncle Wang and arrange for you to study abroad directly. You've embarrassed our family enough!" Olivia's mother said.

"Alright, alright, Mrs. Wood. Let's take the kids and go," Sophia's mother said. She was carrying an LV bag and pulled Olivia's mother toward the door of the detention center.

She took a few steps, then urged the two girls to hurry up and follow. She also gave me a glance.

That glance was filled with both disdain and contempt.

Now, only Chloe He and I were left.

I looked at her. She sat there silently, saying nothing.

"Oh, Officer! Our Chloe is a good girl. She's usually so well-behaved. You mustn't put any criminal record on my daughter!" Chloe's mother rushed in, out of breath. As soon as she entered, she explained to the middle-aged police officer.

Sweat was dripping from her forehead, and she was still wearing the uniform of a certain garment factory.

"Don't worry. The children are still minors, so no record will be kept. But you need to take better care of your child from now on β€” pay more attention to her physical and mental health," the officer said.

"Officer, you're absolutely right. I'll definitely discipline her properly when we get home. I promise she won't do anything like this again!" Chloe's mother replied.

"Then I'll take my child home now," she said.

"Go ahead, take her home," the officer agreed.

"Thank you, Officer! Thank you so much for your trouble!" Chloe's mother said.

She walked over, grabbed Chloe He's arm, and gave me another quick glance.

"Hurry up, let's go. Look at me β€” I was in such a hurry to find you that I didn't even change my clothes. Do you know how tired I am from working every day? Why can't you just make things easier for me?" she complained as she dragged Chloe He quickly toward the door. She then turned back to smile and say goodbye to the police, while whispering something in Chloe He's ear.

I didn't even need to guess β€” I knew she must have been telling Chloe to stay away from me from now on.

To be honest, Chloe He's mother was the most typical kind of parent I had ever seen β€” and there were many like her.

They were afraid that their children would go down the wrong path and ruin their future, but they didn't give their children genuine care and concern.

"You're the only one left now, young lady. Your family hasn't come yet. You'll have to wait a little longer," the middle-aged police officer said, taking off his hat, scratching his buzz cut, and then putting the hat back on.

"Uncle, I want to report something," I said.

"Hmm?" He looked at me seriously. "What is it?"

I took out the phone I had snatched from Sophia Zhang earlier. She hadn't set a password, so I easily unlocked the screen and found the video in the photo album.

"Uncle, look at this," I said, handing the phone to him.

The middle-aged police officer took the phone with a look of doubt. He only watched for a moment before frowning and looking at me.

"Uncle, will the people in this video go to jail?" I asked, looking at him with a sorrowful expression. "This is my sister. She's already dead."

The middle-aged police officer looked at me with sympathy. "The adults will, but the minors probably won't."

"I see," I said, lowering my head in disappointment β€” even though I had already known this would be the result.

Sister, I hope you're satisfied with what I've done for you.
