Chapter 16
Living Together Again with My Ex-Husband • Chapter 18
Chapter 16
Luke Brown had a woman’s fair arm linked through his. They made a handsome couple, looking perfectly matched.
I knew that woman—she was Chloe Taylor, the newly crowned Best Actress, a rising star.
She had a devil’s figure and an angel’s face, outshining all those fake innocent types.
I straightened my back, suppressing the sour feeling in my chest, then stepped forward and greeted them politely.
Throughout the entire event, I kept a perfectly decent smile on my face.
When Sophia Miller accompanied me to the bathroom, she looked at me with disdain.
“Lucy White, isn’t your face stiff?”
“Of course it’s stiff! I’ve been smiling for so long—how could it not be?”
“Then why are you even smiling?”
“It’s just social etiquette. You’re a company boss too, for goodness’ sake—don’t you even know that?”
Sophia Miller rolled her eyes. “You glanced at Ethan Green fifty-eight times today.”
I fought back a wave of nausea. “I just wanted to see how someone could be so desperate as to hook up with a rich old woman.”
“Then why did you glance at Luke Brown one hundred and nine times?”
My face instantly burned with heat. “Sophia Miller, why are you counting how many times I looked at people? Are you trying to show off how good your math is?”
“I just want to warn you—Luke Brown has been promoting Chloe Taylor like crazy. There are rumors that they’re in a serious relationship. The fact that he’s openly bringing her out like this means they’re probably getting serious soon. Don’t fall for him.”
I thought Sophia Miller must be a fake best friend. Otherwise, why would she think I liked Luke Brown?
It was clearly that jerk who’d started it and then abandoned me.
I even wanted to run up to Chloe Taylor and tell her about how Luke Brown had stuck his tongue in when he kissed me. But I quickly squashed that malicious thought.
It would make me look like I was actually jealous.
At the end of the banquet, I got drunk. I collapsed into Sophia Miller’s arms, completely unconscious.
In my daze, I felt someone pinching my waist. I slapped their hand away and declared righteously, “Don’t touch me—it tickles!”
