Soon, the first project proposal I’d prepared after taking back the company was successfully approved. I waved my hand generously and booked a hotel ballroom to celebrate.

To my surprise, Ethan Green showed up. He had his arm around a middle-aged woman, smiling obsequiously.

And this woman happened to be the vice president of the company we were collaborating with on the project.

When she shook my hand and smiled at me, I felt a disgusting sensation, like I’d swallowed a fly.

“Ms. Lu, don’t you have a date? Do you want me to lend you mine?”

I looked at her chubby hand resting on Ethan Green’s waist, then shook my head instinctively. I was just hoping that Luke Brown would arrive soon so I could use him as a shield, when I heard a commotion.

I immediately turned my head, and my smile froze on my face.

I’d thought Luke Brown had been lying about having a girlfriend—trying to hide the fact that he liked me.

But I never expected to be proven wrong so quickly.
