Chapter 6

I was diagnosed with Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD). Mom contacted the best psychologists abroad for me.

To receive treatment, I ended up living abroad all year round—and in a way, that was a good thing. It kept me far away from Ryan Wilson.

Mom gave me some startup money, and I started a small business overseas. I also hired someone to keep an eye on Ryan Wilson and report on his movements.

One night, Mom called me. “Nina, your brother is getting married. The wedding is the day after tomorrow—can you make it back?”

“I’ll check the flights, but the day after tomorrow is pretty short notice,” I said.

The person I’d hired to monitor Ryan had already told me about the wedding. He was getting married suddenly—just like in my past life.

Linda Brown and Ryan Wilson—those two scumbags really were “meant for each other.”

But I still pretended to sound annoyed as I asked Mom, “Why is he getting married so suddenly? He didn’t even tell me in advance.”

“It’s all your brother’s fault—his fiancée is pregnant now,” Mom said, equal parts angry and helpless.

I smiled and comforted her. “Brother is already 27—he’s long overdue to settle down. Sarah White next door already has a granddaughter who can run around and play.”

“Enough about that, Nina. Go to bed early. Send me your flight info once you book it, and I’ll pick you up at the airport,” Mom said.

“Got it, Mom. Good night.”

“Good night.”

After hanging up, I booked a flight for the next afternoon. Before returning to China, I went to see my psychologist. They said my C-PTSD symptoms had improved a lot.

But I still worried—worried that facing Ryan and Linda again would make my condition worse.
