The Night Before the Wedding, My Fiancé Ran Off with His First Love   •   Chapter 14

Chapter 12

Today was my first day living with Ethan Brown.

Who knew how I’d get through the days ahead?

Just then, my phone rang.

I answered it—and a familiar voice came through.

“Yuanyuan, I miss you so much.”

A wave of disgust washed over me. How could this man say something like that without a shred of guilt?

“Ryan Smith, please stop being disgusting,” I said, holding back the urge to yell.

“I’m sorry... Please, give me another chance,” he begged, his voice desperate.

Chance? Would another chance erase all the pain I’d felt?

I turned on the speakerphone, walked into Ethan Brown’s study, and handed him the phone.

“Yuanyuan, please. I’ll give you anything you want,” Ryan continued.

I watched Ethan’s face darken instantly—his eyes turning cold.

“Yuanyuan, please don’t ignore me. You’re married, but that’s a lie, right?” Ryan kept rambling.

“Sir, do you think it’s appropriate to harass someone else’s wife in the middle of the night?” Ethan finally spoke up, his voice sharp.

“You... Are you the guy from last time?” Ryan stammered.

“If you have something to say, come find me at Haishi Group. Don’t call my wife alone,” Ethan said.

“And... you just said you’d give my wife anything she wants? Do you think I can’t give her that? Or do you think your assets compare to mine? Come talk to me about ‘giving her anything’ when you’re in my position.”

Ethan hung up the phone sharply.

It was the first time I’d heard him say so many words in a row. The first time I’d seen him look like he was really angry.

He looked... kind of cute, actually.

I sat on the edge of his desk, grinning mischievously.

“Mr. Wen, were you jealous?”

Ethan stood up, putting his arms around my waist.

“After all, my wife was on the phone with another man alone at night. It’s only natural for me to be angry, isn’t it?”

“I wasn’t alone! I came to find you right away! And he called me first!” I protested immediately.

“As punishment, you have to sleep with me tonight,” Ethan said, pulling me closer.

I could hear his slightly rapid breathing.

“Get lost! I’m not selling my body!” I pushed him away—my heart starting to race.

Ethan chuckled softly, leaning down. “Are you afraid I’ll do something to you?”

I turned my head away. “I just don’t trust your character.”

The next second, I felt a warm touch on my neck.

Ethan had kissed me gently on the neck.

When he pulled away, he looked up at me. “You’re right not to trust me.”

Later that night, I tossed and turned in bed.

What did Ethan Brown mean by that?

Had he been drinking? I hadn’t smelled any alcohol.

Was he just so attracted to me that he couldn’t control himself?

No, that couldn’t be. He’d seen so many beautiful women—what was so special about me?

But the next second, I was shocked by my own thoughts.

I hadn’t even cared about what Ryan had said to me.

I hadn’t even wondered why he’d suddenly contacted me again.

All night, I’d only thought about why Ethan Brown had kissed me.

I felt a sense of danger.

A voice deep inside me screamed a warning:

I couldn’t let this man occupy my thoughts any longer.
