Chapter 9

Thinking back to this embarrassing incident from the past, I felt so ashamed that I wanted to hide. But when I turned my head, I saw the intense and eager look in Dylan Ye's eyes.

I knew what he wanted to say, so I had no choice but to be honest with him, "I remember now."

I just never would have thought that he would remember a childish joke we had made all those years ago until now.

Amidst a warm and joyful atmosphere, we finished dinner. Needless to say, I knew I would have to walk him to the door.

The night was clear and dust-free, and the moonlight shone down like silver.

Under the osmanthus tree at the entrance of the courtyard, our shadows merged together in the moonlight.

It was such a rare perfect night with the moon full and flowers in bloom, but when I opened my mouth, I ruined the mood, "Hurry up and leave. If you stay any longer, your grandpa probably won't leave the door open for you."

"Then wouldn't that be perfect for me?" He curled his lips into a smile that made him look like a rogue.

A gentle summer breeze blew by, knocking a few osmanthus flowers off the tree.

He reached out and gently brushed one off my shoulder. His long eyelashes covered his eyes, which had grown darker and more intense, and the deep meaning in his gaze seemed ready to overflow.

The scene was too intimate for me to handle. I wanted to urge him to leave, but he leaned down and pressed a soft kiss on my cheek.

His thick, long eyelashes brushed against my skin—soft and ticklish—carrying the intoxicating fragrance of osmanthus wine.

The rapid thumping of his heart seemed to spread to mine, and both our hearts began to race uncontrollably. In the quiet night, the sound of our two heartbeats filled the entire world.

I couldn't remember how I got back to the house. All I knew was that now I was hiding under the covers, too embarrassed to face anyone.

My phone kept buzzing with notifications, and messages from that troublemaker popped up one after another.

They were all meaningless remarks like "I got home safely," "It's so hot tonight," and "Are you asleep yet?" But right now, they seemed to have some kind of magical power that made my face turn red.

I turned off my phone and didn't reply to him, afraid that if I did, he would keep messaging me nonstop and I wouldn't be able to sleep at all that night.

I thought he would finally leave me alone, but suddenly one last message popped up: "Remember to wear that dress tomorrow."

Okay.

In the end, I couldn't bear to leave him talking to himself and sent him a reply.

I turned off my phone, closed my eyes tightly, and finally managed to calm down a little with the cool air from the air conditioner. But my mind couldn't help but drift back to the scene under the moon.

Oh no, how had I let myself get so hooked? Sigh, it was going to be a sleepless night.
