Chapter 11

When Mom rushed in, she saw me kneeling on the floor, sideways, while Linda Brown stood over me, glowering with anger.

As the sun set, the room grew even darker. The dragon fruit juice on my dress looked exactly like blood.

“Nina! What happened? You’re covered in blood! Olivia, call an ambulance right now!” Mom screamed.

“Mom, I’m fine—it’s just dragon fruit juice,” I said calmly.

Someone turned on the bedroom light. When Mom saw I was really unharmed, she let out a long sigh of relief.

“What on earth were you thinking?” she asked, turning to me.

“I said something wrong and made my sister-in-law angry. She threw the fruit plate at me, and I tripped and fell,” I explained, then lowered my head and let two more tears fall.

“You’re lying! You poured it on yourself!” Linda Brown shrieked.

I looked up at Mom, my eyes filled with tears.

“I accidentally saw her looking at photos of my brother cheating. I tried to comfort her— told her it was just a mistake all men make, and that she should let it go. But she suddenly got mad and threw the fruit plate at me,” I sobbed.

“You little bitch! I’ll tear your mouth apart if you keep lying!” Linda Brown screamed, lunging toward me.

Olivia stepped forward to stop her. In the scuffle, Linda Brown tripped and fell next to the bed. Her stomach cramped, and she collapsed onto the floor, rolling around in pain.

“Madam, I didn’t mean to! She was going to hit Miss Nina, so I stopped her,” Olivia stammered, panicking when she saw Linda Brown’s condition.

“This isn’t the time to argue— hurry, call an ambulance!” Mom ordered.

Olivia fumbled with her phone and dialed 120.
