Chapter 5

Grandpa and I spent two days exploring City S.

In my past life, I’d been paralyzed, and my biggest dream had been to ride a carousel. So Grandpa took me to one.

That night, we got a call from Fiona Wilson.

“Mr. Miller, hello. This is Nina’s mother. The test results are back—Nina really is my daughter,” she said.

The results confirmed it: I was the long-lost daughter of the Wilson family. Just like in my memories.

Mom exchanged a few polite words with Grandpa, and that night, I was taken back to the Wilson house.

Grandpa was happy for me when I found my biological parents. When Mom heard how well Grandpa had taken care of me all those years, she was very grateful to him.

Grandpa was getting old, and I couldn’t bear to leave him alone at home. After talking to Mom, she helped arrange for him to stay in a nursing home.

“Grandpa, stay here in City S. The nursing home is close to my house—you can come see me often, and I’ll visit you too,” I said.

Grandpa also wanted to stay close to me; he was worried about leaving me here alone.

“It’s okay if I stay in the nursing home, but I’ll pay for it myself,” he insisted.

In the end, we reached an agreement, and Grandpa moved into the nursing home. I visited him there often.

I had a peaceful period of time at the Wilson house, and I sorted out my thoughts.

For some reason, I’d been reborn. All the miserable days I’d endured after my suicide attempt had been real. After I died a terrible death, I’d returned to the time before I tried to kill myself. So everything I’d experienced had been real.

And then I saw someone—and that made me even more certain.

During summer break from college, my brother Ryan Wilson came home.

When we met for the first time, Mom introduced me to him: “This is your sister, Nina Wilson. I told you about her on the phone.”

He smiled and greeted me, holding out his arms for a hug. “Do you remember your big brother?”

As I looked at his face—the face of a devil—my body trembled uncontrollably, and cold sweat broke out on my back.

In my past life, because I was paralyzed and bedridden, this beast of a brother had violated me many times. I’d even gotten pregnant with his child. In the end, because of a maid’s carelessness, I’d choked to death on my vomit from morning sickness.

I was a demon back from hell, and I wanted to tear him to pieces. But right now, I didn’t have the power to take revenge.

I forced myself to calm down, to stop my body from shaking. I swallowed my fear and disgust and let him hug me.

Luckily, he didn’t suspect anything. Afterward, he just looked at me with a smile. I forced a stiff smile back at him.
