Chapter 7 The Breakup

Consumed by anger, I told my husband I wanted a divorce.

“Fine,” he replied without hesitation. Then he claimed that I’d been the one to cheat first, so I shouldn’t expect to get a single penny from him.

“What are you talking about? I don’t understand—how have I wronged you?” I asked, furious and confused.

“Quit pretending,” he said. “I already know about you and that old flame of yours, Taylor. Stop acting innocent in front of me.” He pulled out his phone and showed me photos of James and me toasting with our arms crossed. There was also a video of James confessing his feelings for me, plus photos from our class gatherings—all taken from angles that made it look like James and I were in close, intimate contact.

“No wonder you’ve been so obsessed with your figure and looks lately,” my husband sneered. “You’re buying new clothes more often, going to the gym, even hiring a personal trainer. You’re spending money more freely too. So you’ve been using my money to fund your little romance, huh? After all you’ve done behind my back, what I did is just paying you back in your own coin!”

His words hit me like a thunderbolt. Suddenly, I realized everything had been a setup. Olivia had planned it all out so carefully, and we’d both fallen right into her trap.

Once a seed of doubt is planted, it takes root deeply—especially between husband and wife.

I tried my best to explain, but my husband was like a man possessed. No matter what I said, he refused to listen or believe me. I thought to myself: maybe his heart had already started to change the moment he praised another woman’s figure. That’s why he’d used that as an excuse to cheat, then played the victim and shifted all the blame onto me. The more I thought about it, the angrier I got.
