Chapter 14
The Night Before the Wedding, My Fiancé Ran Off with His First Love • Chapter 16
Chapter 14
I’d been avoiding Ethan Brown.
Ever since that night, the second Ethan came home, I’d rush into my room and lock the door.
If he got home before me, I’d say a quick hello and then hurry off.
He seemed to have noticed, but he never said anything. He just kept playing the “good husband.”
Every morning, he’d make breakfast and brew my balloon flower tea.
Every evening, he’d pick me up from work—only sending someone else when he was busy.
Every day, he’d ask me what I wanted to eat, what I needed.
I’d started to get used to it—as if I really was his wife.
But today, our peaceful life was finally broken.
Someone sent a bouquet of flowers to my office.
Subconsciously, I thought it was from Ethan. I even smiled—thinking he’d suddenly gotten into romantic gestures.
I carried the flowers downstairs, a little excited at the thought of seeing Ethan.
But instead, I saw the man who made me sick to my stomach.
Ryan Smith.
I pretended not to see him and tried to walk past.
But he rushed over, grabbed my hand, and begged me nonstop.
“Yuanyuan, I can explain everything that happened before!”
“Please, give me a chance to explain!”
More and more people were staring at us. I couldn’t handle the attention.
To avoid gossip, I agreed to go to a coffee shop next to the company with Ryan.
“Spit it out. What do you want to explain?” I said, my face cold.
Ryan hung his head. Tears fell onto his pants one by one.
I frowned in disgust.
What was this? Crocodile tears?
“Yuanyuan, you’re the only one I’ve ever loved,” he said suddenly, looking up.
I let out a cold laugh. “You love me? Then why did you run away the night before our wedding? You love me? Then why did you get another woman pregnant? Ryan Smith, I can’t handle this kind of ‘love’.”
Ryan shook his head frantically. “No, that’s not what happened! It’s not!”
“She tricked me... She lied about being pregnant with my child. I didn’t want to be an irresponsible man... So I...”
The more he talked, the more absurd it sounded. Looking at him, I felt like I didn’t even know him anymore.
“So let me get this straight. You’re telling me you cheated on me, slept with another woman, but you don’t love her—only me. Then she said she was pregnant, and you thought you were a ‘responsible man,’ so you broke up with me to take care of her. But it turns out she lied. Is that what you’re saying?”
“I just ran into her with my friends that day. We had a few drinks... I swear I didn’t do anything with her... But she said she was pregnant. I was tricked! That baby isn’t even mine! And that text message the night before our wedding? She sent it! She told me she was pregnant, and I lost it. Yuanyuan, I’m so sorry!”
Watching Ryan cry those fake tears, I wanted to laugh.
Did he really think he could win me back?
Did he think I was that insecure, that desperate?
“Enough, Ryan Smith. Do you think I care about your stupid drama? I’m married. And I love my husband.”
“You found someone else so quickly—someone like him. You must have planned this all along!” Ryan said, gritting his teeth.
There it was—the real Ryan, finally showing his true colors.
“Sorry, but I don’t stoop to cheating. That’s something only lowlifes like you do.”
“Then why did you accept gifts from a lowlife like me?” He glared at the bouquet in my hand, his eyes red.
How disgusting.
I threw the whole bouquet at his head, then forced a big smile.
“Sorry—I didn’t know it was from you. It’s too disgusting, so I’ll give it back. Oh, and—wish you two a long and happy life!”
With that, I turned and walked away.
The second I stepped out of the coffee shop, I couldn’t hold back my tears.
I felt sick and sad—sad that I’d ever loved such a terrible man.
For some reason, at that moment, I just wanted to see someone.
And just like that, he appeared in front of me.
I finally let go, bursting into tears, and ran into his arms.
“Why did you take so long to get here?!”
Ethan looked a little stunned, then wrapped his arms around me tighter.
“It’s my fault. I’m late. It won’t happen again.”
Ethan Brown—who didn’t even know what was going on—was apologizing to me. I cried even harder.
Ethan Brown, why are you being so nice to me?
I don’t want to misunderstand anymore.
