I pulled open the bottom drawer of my desk, revealing Luna Parker’s personal files—information I’d had someone dig up. Now I was grateful I’d done it.

Luna Parker—Ethan’s childhood sweetheart, the one he’d loved but never had. Ethan’s parents had divorced when he was young; he’d been raised by his grandmother, and after her death, he’d become an orphan with no one to care for him. Later, when he couldn’t afford to stay in school, Luna had dropped out to work and support his education.

In short—without Luna back then, there would be no successful Ethan Wilson today. After Ethan got into college, Luna’s parents had forced her to marry a wealthy upstart, tearing them apart. But their feelings hadn’t faded—if anything, the separation had made them stronger.

Now, Ethan was losing his senses over her.

That night, Ethan actually came home. We sat in silence at the dinner table—neither of us had the energy to talk. We were already too far gone to go back.

When I headed to the bedroom, Ethan went to the study. So he’d come home just to give me the cold shoulder?

Once, that would have hurt. Now, I didn’t have the strength to care—even whether Ethan had rekindled his old flame with Luna felt irrelevant.

Sometime later, I was roused from a light sleep by rustling. Someone slipped into the other side of the bed.

When had Ethan started keeping his distance even while sleeping? He could’ve easily stayed in the study. His only goal must be to upset me.

Realizing that jolted me awake. Maybe there had always been problems between us, and Luna was just the biggest one. If he knew I was dying, he’d probably be overjoyed.

But I wasn’t that selfless. The company was my father’s legacy—I’d never let it fall into the hands of a scumbag like Ethan. I couldn’t let my father rest in peace otherwise.

Ethan left for the office before dawn, as if deliberately avoiding me.

But I didn’t care.
