Chapter 6
The Night Before the Wedding, My Fiancé Ran Off with His First Love • Chapter 8
Chapter 6
“Here’s the prenuptial agreement. Take a look.”
Ethan Brown’s secretary handed me a document.
I forced myself to stay calm, sipping my coffee, but my legs were shaking uncontrollably under the table.
“Ms. Gu, no need to be so nervous. I won’t eat you,” the man said, raising an eyebrow, a hint of amusement in his eyes.
“I want to know—why me?” I got straight to the point.
Ethan Brown stared straight at me, the corner of his mouth lifting. I couldn’t read his thoughts.
“Because you’re special,” he said.
“Special? In what way?” I pressed, not backing down.
“Not everyone gets dumped the night before their wedding,” he said, a faint smile playing on his lips—as if mocking me.
I twitched the corner of my mouth, holding back the urge to punch him.
“That’s the only reason?”
“Of course not. But I don’t want to tell you right now.”
He leaned in suddenly, the smile in his eyes deepening.
“You’ll find out slowly after we’re married.”
Looking at the black words on the white paper, Ryan Smith’s face—filled with the hatred I felt—popped into my mind.
Gripping my resolve, I picked up a pen and signed my name.
“Very well, Ms. Gu. I’ll abide by the terms strictly. I hope you will too,” the man emphasized again.
I knew I was just a pawn to Ethan Brown.
He didn’t want to go along with his family’s arranged marriage, so he’d found a woman who needed him—a decoy.
And I’d been the lucky one he’d picked.
In the end, he just wanted someone who wouldn’t control him, who’d let him do whatever he wanted—someone easy to handle.
Fine. We were just using each other.
I’d get money and a chance to get back at Ryan Smith. He’d get away from his family’s control and wouldn’t have to play the loyal husband.
“We can go get the marriage certificate tomorrow,” Ethan Brown said lazily, leaning back on the sofa, his expression calm.
I almost spit out my coffee.
“What? That soon? It’s not even in the agreement!” I stared at him in shock.
“Added just now,” he said lightly, as if it was the most natural thing in the world—as if I was the one being unreasonable.
Was this guy for real?
“I’ll pick you up at 10 tomorrow morning.”
“Ms. Gu—don’t back out.”
