Chapter 8

The next day was the weekend. Ethan Zhou sent a message saying he'd be coming back that night. So I got up early in the morning, went to the supermarket to buy some vegetables, and went home to prepare a big meal, determined to show off my cooking skills.

But when I got home, I saw someone standing at the door.

I walked up to him. "Excuse me, who are you?"

His hair hung over his forehead, covering his eyes. His eyes looked fierce and menacing.

Even though his face was terrifying, I could see a resemblance to Ethan Zhou in it.

"Where's Ethan Zhou!" The man looked me up and down, then started spewing out a string of filthy insults. "That bastard—using my money to keep a woman outside!"

That phrase "bastard" stabbed at my heart like a knife.

"I don't welcome you here. If you keep pestering me like this, I'll call the police."

"Call the police?" He sneered. "You need to get this straight—this house belongs to my son. You're the one who should get out of here. Let's see who the police arrest when they come—you or me."

"Your son?" I was so angry my lips were trembling. "What right do you have to call Ethan Zhou your son? Do you even deserve to be called a father? You beat him when he was a kid and wouldn't let him go to school—how could a human being do something like that? And now you're cursing him! You're not even as good as an animal!"

"Hey~ So Ethan Zhou told you everything!" Unexpectedly, after hearing what I said, Charlie Zhou didn't feel the slightest bit of shame—instead, he became even more arrogant. "My neighbor told me he made a lot of money from that lousy game of his. It's not too much to ask him for a hundred thousand yuan to spend, right?"

"A hundred thousand yuan!" I was so angry I felt like my lungs would explode. "Forget a hundred thousand—you won't get a single cent from him!"

I didn't want to waste any more words on him. I turned around, took out my phone, and dialed 110.

"Hello, this is the 110 Emergency Service. Your call is being recorded."

But just as the call connected, he slapped my phone out of my hand.

"Damn it!" Charlie Zhou flew into a rage when he saw what I was doing. He grabbed my hand, digging his nails into my flesh. "Bitch—just like that bitch of a mother of yours! You all want to send me to jail? Dream on!"

I let out a muffled groan of pain. Suddenly, there was a "ding" sound from the elevator.

It was Ethan Zhou.

Ethan Zhou was back.

When he saw what was happening in front of him, his pupils shrank sharply. He rushed over in a few steps, shielding me behind him. He grabbed Charlie Zhou's arm quickly and twisted it hard.

Charlie Zhou let out a cry of pain. When he saw who it was, his face contorted into a ferocious expression.

"Ethan Zhou, you little bastard! I beat you when you were a kid, and now you dare to hit me? You really are that woman's son—your conscience has been eaten by dogs!"

"Don't you dare mention my mom!" Hatred gradually filled Ethan Zhou's eyes, like a burning flame.

His gaze fell on the bloodstains on my hand, and the coldness around him intensified.

He lunged at Charlie Zhou, clenched his fist, and swung it at his face—his eyes were filled with murderous intent.

Ethan Zhou had clearly put all his strength into that punch. If he hit him, he'd be legally responsible.

Thinking of this, I rushed forward and hugged him from behind. "Ethan Zhou, calm down!"

When he felt my embrace, his body trembled violently, and his emotions gradually calmed down.
