Chapter 12
My relationship with Dylan Ye was finally settled.
Our parents picked an auspicious date to hold the engagement ceremony.
While the elders were busy with all the preparations, I was enjoying a leisurely time. This made my mom unable to stand it any longer.
"If you have nothing to do, go to the company and get familiar with the business. Stop wandering around like you have nothing to do."
So, I hitched a ride with my dad to the company building.
But I didn't go in with him. Instead, I waited for half an hour before entering alone.
I still dressed plainly, so much so that the young receptionist even mistook me for a new intern.
She led me to my work station, and there, I saw a familiar figure.
That young man in a white shirt, busy making coffee—wasn't that Alex Liu?
I had heard that he had gotten a job at a big company, but I never would have guessed it was my family's company.
I wasn't ready to run into him like this, and my mind started racing.
Before I could figure out what to say to him, he spotted me with sharp eyes.
"What are you doing here?" He stared at me, his eyes filled with suspicion. He added, "Someone like you actually got into this company? You must have used connections to get in, right?"
I rolled my eyes at him inwardly. How had I never noticed before how stupid he was?
Wasn't he afraid of offending the wrong person by talking like that?
I ignored his sarcastic remarks and maintained my dignity.
I just gently pushed him out of my way with my bag and said calmly, "Excuse me."
Maybe he didn't see the reaction he wanted on my face, because he got angry. He was just about to say something else.
But from not far away, we heard my dad's voice calling, "Ning Ning."
I turned around and replied obediently, "Dad."
I clearly saw Alex Liu's face turn from red to white, then to green.
He squeezed the words out through his teeth, "I thought your family just ran a supermarket!"
I didn't bother to 搭理 him. I walked straight toward my dad, under the envious gazes of everyone around.
