Chapter 4
A Swap of Worthless for Priceless • Chapter 6
Chapter 4
A week passed, and Dylan Ye didn't come to bother me anymore— whether he had taken my words to heart or was busy with work, I didn't know.
I was happy to have some peace and quiet, and even slept much more soundly.
I had a little quirk—I was extremely curious.
After breaking up with Alex Liu that day, I heard that he had gotten a job at a famous large enterprise thanks to the rich woman he was seeing.
I wanted to find out who this rich woman he had latched onto was, so I asked my incredibly resourceful best friend, Crystal, to look into it for me.
Little did I know that the more I found out, the more curious I became.
Because that girl told me mysteriously that this rich woman had some connection to my family.
My family owned a private manor, which my parents had bought when they were young to spend their retirement in. But because they were always busy with work, they rarely went there.
So for all these years, it had been managed by the manor's housekeeper.
This housekeeper had worked for our family for many years. He was an old hometown friend of my dad's from before my dad became successful. They had been on good terms when they were young, but he didn't have much ability.
He was content with managing this manor for our family.
He had been working diligently for over twenty years, and I had a clear memory of him.
But Crystal said that this rich woman was actually the housekeeper's illegitimate daughter. And this illegitimate daughter loved to go around bragging about how her family owned a manor.
As for how Alex Liu had met this rich woman, Crystal said it must have been with Dylan Ye's involvement.
Why would Dylan Ye get involved in this matter? And why would he arrange for Alex Liu to meet that rich woman? When the truth finally came to light, one could only imagine how devastated Alex Liu would be.
When it came down to it, Alex Liu was just someone who wanted to take a shortcut in life by relying on his partner.
It was rather ridiculous, though. Apart from what he did to me, he hadn't really hurt anyone else. There was no need for Dylan Ye to teach him a lesson on my behalf.
Furthermore, if Dylan Ye had really been behind this, wouldn't that make him the one responsible for my breakup?
Even though, for me, this had turned out to be a good thing.
Seeing that I wasn't saying anything, Crystal said in a soft, teasing tone, "Actually, Dylan Ye is a really good guy."
I rolled my eyes at her, "How would you know?"
Crystal wasn't one to back down either, "Let's make a bet. I bet you two will end up together. If you win, I'll be your bridesmaid. If you lose..."
I could hear the mischievous grin in her voice over the phone, "If you lose, you have to give him to me."
"Get out of here!" I snapped, hanging up the phone after saying those last three words.
After hanging up, my mind was in a whirl. I really hadn't expected there to be this kind of connection. My head felt all muddled.
It was true that Alex Liu was an absolute scumbag, but that didn't mean Dylan Ye had no ulterior motives. It was absurd to think he had fallen head over heels in love with me after just one meeting—even a ghost wouldn't believe that.
All Alex Liu wanted was money. But what did Dylan Ye want?
