Chapter 22

When I woke up again, there were two more people in the living room.

I stared in shock at Chloe Taylor, who was wearing a high-end formal dress. I couldn’t understand why this shining, star-studded woman was in my house.

Had she come to settle the score with me?

I opened my mouth to apologize, to explain that there was nothing between Luke Brown and me, but the words got stuck in my throat.

“Luke Brown is my cousin—my biological cousin.”

Chloe Taylor smiled gently at me. “I pestered him to take me to that banquet the other day. I wanted to see what kind of girl had made him so obsessed for all these years.”

I froze, completely at a loss for how to react.

Sitting next to Chloe Taylor was a man whose eyes looked somewhat similar to Luke Brown’s.

“Hello, I’m Benjamin Taylor—Chloe Taylor’s biological brother, and Lily King’s attending doctor.”

I frowned and scrambled back in panic.

My mind was filled with images of Luke Brown hurting Lily King.

“What… what do you want?”

“Luke Brown forbade me from coming to see you, but you’re sick, Lucy White. You’re very sick.”

Benjamin Taylor’s voice was unusually gentle, but to me, it sounded terrifying.

“You’re the one who’s sick! Your whole family is sick! Get out of my house! Get out! I don’t want to see you!”

I flew into a rage, yelling and trying to drive them away. My head hurt so badly that it felt like something was about to burst out of it.

I wanted to find someone to lean on, to call someone for help, but I couldn’t remember anyone’s name. In my confusion, I suddenly shouted a name.

A name that had never existed in my memories before.

“Daniel Green, don’t leave me!”
