Chapter 14
Living Together Again with My Ex-Husband • Chapter 16
Chapter 14
Luke Brown stormed into his villa with a dark face, slamming the door so hard it shook the walls.
I didn’t feel like I’d won. The things he’d said felt so foreign to me—why couldn’t I remember any of them?
Had I really faked amnesia all this time? Why? Was there something wrong with me?
Had Luke Brown and I known each other for a long time?
Why had I remembered so many other things—even Ethan Green felt somewhat familiar—but I had no memory of Luke Brown at all?
Maybe it was because I had too much on my mind, but I slept extremely restlessly that night.
I drifted in and out of sleep, having all sorts of bizarre dreams. In those dreams, I was torn apart by pain, as if trying to escape from somewhere, but I could never find a way out. I was like a mouse in a cage, being toyed with by a cat.
Who was that cat?
When I woke up the next day, as expected, there were two heavy dark circles under my eyes.
As I was leaving the house, I happened to run into Luke Brown, who was also on his way out. I was about to walk around him to avoid him, but then I remembered what he’d said last night—that I acted like I was guarding against a thief around him.
So I decided to deliberately loiter in front of him.
I claimed I didn’t know how to drive, then pestered him into letting me sit in the passenger seat of his Cayenne.
And I used the fact that his villa had been a gift from my grandfather to shut down all his excuses.
“Luke Brown, why is there candy in the car?”
“I keep it for my girlfriend.”
“You have a girlfriend?”
“I’m a man—a normal, mature man.”
A strange sourness welled up in my heart. I pulled out a candy, popped it into my mouth, and crunched it loudly. Out of the corner of my eye, I caught sight of Luke Brown’s lips twitching into a smile. I instantly realized what was going on.
How could a man who’d lived with his ex-wife in the same villa for so long have a girlfriend?
He was messing with me?
Men really were full of tricks.
