A Swap of Worthless for Priceless • Chapter 3
Chapter 1
After dating my boyfriend for two years, I gave in to my dad's authority and reluctantly agreed to go on a blind date with his business partner's son.
But I never expected that the person on the blind date at the next table would be my boyfriend.
The moment I spotted him, I walked up to Alex Liu. Glancing at the woman dressed in ostentatious jewelry across from him, I waited for his explanation.
Alex Liu looked at me. The surprise in his eyes faded in an instant, and he quickly put on a reckless "might as well be hanged for a sheep as a lamb" attitude.
"Since you've found out, I have nothing to explain. We're not a good fit—let's break up."
I was left speechless, staring at him in shock. My throat felt dry as I spoke, "Are you being serious? I can explain what happened today."
Quite a few people in the restaurant were eavesdropping. As the saying goes, family shame shouldn't be aired in public.
Besides, my blind date, Dylan Ye, was right beside me, so it wasn't the most convenient time to make a scene.
I grabbed his arm, planning to find a quiet place to talk things through properly.
But he shook off my hand and glanced at Dylan Ye beside me.
Dylan Ye was wearing the latest coat from a well-known luxury brand, and half of the watch peeking out from his wrist was obviously invaluable. He looked sophisticated and handsome.
Alex Liu poked my shoulder hard enough to make my body tilt slightly.
He sneered, "There's nothing to explain. Didn't you say you had to go home to take care of something today? So 'taking care of something' means fishing for a wealthy man?"
Caught red-handed, I had no way to refute him and could only endure his harsh words.
After all, I was in the wrong first—I had lied to him.
Then he looked me up and down, scoffing, "Look at you. After dating me for years, you've never dressed this formally before."
With just a few words, the disdainful gazes of everyone around converged on me.
I was wearing a custom-made off-white dress my mom had prepared for me. The style was simple yet elegant.
The necklace and earrings I had on were a matching diamond set. Compared to my usual style, this outfit was indeed overly formal.
My face felt burning hot, and I was just about to speak.
But Alex Liu's tone was mocking as he continued, "You said you'd need 500,000 yuan as betrothal gift for us to get married, and I couldn't come up with that money. So now you've immediately gone to find a rich guy instead?"
After saying that, he went on to add more details to the people around, telling them how I was a fickle woman who was only after money.
A murmur of whispers rose around us, and unkind remarks were thrown at me one after another.
I had never been humiliated like this since I was born.
I couldn't hold back anymore. With the last bit of my rationality left, I shot him an equally disdainful smile.
I spoke slowly, "Someone who can't even come up with 500,000 yuan has the nerve to make a fool of himself in public like this. A guy like you—how could you ever be worthy of my 50 million yuan dowry? You're not even good enough to climb up to my level."
After saying that, I was about to walk away in style when Alex Liu called out to me.
"What? Regretting it now? It's too late."
"Ha-ha, regret?" Alex Liu sneered, then turned his gaze to Dylan Ye, speaking in an extremely malicious tone, "A used woman who's been with me for two years—do you still want her?"
When he finished, he raised his eyebrows at me triumphantly.
The way his mouth curled up slightly made my stomach churn.
I was stunned. I never would have thought he could say something like that—it was a world away from his usual gentle and humble demeanor.
Dylan Ye frowned, clearly displeased. Suddenly, his hands— which had been kept politely by his sides—wrapped around my waist as he said, "500,000 yuan to marry you is way too cheap. I'll offer 5 billion yuan. Let's go, my wife."
Before I could even process what was happening, he had already made a decision about the rest of my life.
