Chapter 14
When Mom saw me at home, she asked, “Nina, is your brother home? He won’t answer his phone, and he still hasn’t gone to the hospital to see your sister-in-law.”
“I don’t know if he came back. Mom, you can check his room,” I said.
Of course he wasn’t in his room—I’d already hired someone else to keep an eye on him.
Mom had told me he’d gone to the hospital that morning, but he hadn’t visited Linda Brown—only his daughter, before leaving.
My poor sister-in-law, I thought. Let me give you a little “help.”
That evening, the news hit the trending topics:

Comments flooded in:
The company’s top executives held an emergency meeting and stripped Ryan Wilson of all his positions.
Furious, Ryan rushed to the hospital and kicked open the door to Linda Brown’s ward.
“Linda Brown, you’ve gotten too bold!” he roared. “Do you want to die? Have you lost your mind?”
Linda Brown was also furious—he’d cheated on her, ignored her while she was in labor, and now he was yelling at her? She’d regained some strength after resting for a day, so she picked up the air conditioner remote from the table and hit Ryan on the head with it.
“You have the nerve to show up?” she shouted, then grabbed whatever was within reach and threw it at him.
I sat on a sofa in my hotel room, swirling a glass of red wine and taking a small sip. I watched the screen in amusement as they turned on each other—like dogs fighting over a bone.
After Ryan left, Linda Brown collapsed onto the bed and cried into her pillow. I picked up my phone and called the private detective I’d hired.
“Are the documents ready?” I asked.
“They’ve been ready for a while, Nina,” he replied.
“Send them over,” I said.
